A. Sunset Cliffs Natural Park – 0.0 miles
Sunset Cliffs Blvd
This park was dedicated in 1983; Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a 68-acre resource based park stretching along the Pacific Ocean bordering the western edge of Point Loma. The 18-acre linear section of this San Diego Park lies to the west of Sunset Cliffs Blvd. between Adair and Ladera Streets.
The park has two beaches, one at the north end near Adair Street and the other below Ladera Street.
The 50-acre hillside section, a designated multiple species conservation area, links to the 640-acre Point Loma Ecological Reserve beginning at the Navy property to the south. Sunset Cliffs Park’s topography includes intricately carved coastal bluffs, arches and sea caves. Sunset Cliffs affords inspiring panoramic ocean views. From the cliffs, the California Gray Whale can be seen migrating annually from the Bering Sea to Baja California.
B. Ocean Beach Farmers Market – 1 mile
Farm-fresh produce, music, art, and crafts every Wednesday year-round. Open 4-7pm in winter; open until 8pm in summer, in the 4900 block of Newport Avenue.
C. Cabrillo National Monument – 5 miles
Namesake of a 16th-century explorer of San Diego, the Cabrillo Monument offers spectacular views, a historic lighthouse, whale watching overlooks and a visitors’ center with a museum. 1800 Cabrillo Memorial Dr.
The swap meet is every Saturday, and Sunday from 7 am to 3 pm in the parking lot of San Diego Sports Arena. 3500 Sports Arena Blvd.
E. Ocean Beach Municipal Fishing Pier – 1 mile
Longest pier on the west coast! There’s no license required to cast a line the Ocean Beach Pier. It is also a lovely place to take a walk and site-see at the same time. The pier offers views miles up and down the coast line. It is located at the end west end of Niagara Street. Just blocks away!
F. Coronado Island – 17 miles
Spectacular beaches, magnificent hotels, exquisite cuisine, can all be found on Coronado Island. Take the I-5 south until you reach the Coronado Bay Bridge Exit.
2. Adventure & Amusement
A. San Diego Zoo – 15 miles
The World Famous San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park, San Diego, California is one of the largest and most progressive zoos in the world with over 4,000 animals of more than 800 species. It is also one of the few zoos in the world that houses the giant panda.
B. San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park – 35 miles
The San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park is a zoo in the San Pasqual Valley area of San Diego, California. It is one of the largest tourist attractions in the city and Southern California. The Park houses a large array of wild and endangered animals including species from the continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, and Australia. The park is in a semi-arid environment and one of its most notable features is the Journey into Africa tram which explores the expansive African exhibits.
C. Sea World San Diego – 3.5 miles
This 45 year old theme park is a marine zoological park on 22 acres along the shore of Mission Bay in San Diego. Sea World has endless opportunities to learn about and see up close, the many sea creatures of the ocean. Plus, there are now several rides to enjoy, along with restaurants, shows, aquariums, gift shops, and even feeding the dolphins!
D. Balboa Park & Museums – 6 miles
Placed in reserve in 1835, it is one of the oldest sites in the United States dedicated to public recreational usage. Besides open areas and natural vegetation, it contains a variety of cultural attractions including museums, theaters, gardens, shops and restaurants as well as the world-renowned San Diego Zoo.
E. Gaslamp Quarter – 8.5 miles
The Gaslamp Quarter is located Downtown and is home to over 100 restaurants, hotels, coffee houses and night clubs. Shop at over 80 boutiques, apparel stores and gallery.
F. Little Italy – 7.5 miles
AKA “San Diego’s friendliest urban neighborhood”. Little Italy is a hilly neighborhood in Downtown, that was originally a predominately Italian fishing neighborhood. It has since been gentrified and now Little Italy is a scenic neighborhood composed mostly of Italian restaurants, Italian retail shops, home design stores, art galleries, and residential units.
G. Seaport Village – 7 miles
Seaport Village is a shopping and dining complex overlooking the bay. It houses more than 70 shops, galleries, and eateries on 90,000 square feet of waterfront property. The Village contains several freestanding buildings in an assortment of architectural styles, from Victorian to traditional Mexican. It is designed to be a car-free environment, with four miles of winding paths rather than streets connecting the various buildings. It is Downtown and is open from 9am to 10pm.
H. Old Town – 5 miles
Old Town, San Diego is a state protected historical park. The park preserves and recreates the old town of the city, from shortly after the Mexican War of Independence during its pueblo Alta California period beginning in 1821. Five original adobes are part of the complex, which includes shops, restaurants and museums. Other historic buildings include a schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop, San Diego’s first newspaper office, a cigar and pipe store, houses and gardens, and a stable with a carriage collection. There are also stores, with local artisans demonstrating their craft.
I. Beaches
Ocean Beach- is just one mile north of our hotel. You can’t miss it if you take Newport Ave west, all the way to the water. (Closest Pier)
Mission Beach- has a lot to do. There is a rollercoaster in Belmont Park and a man made wave to ride at the Wavehouse! And of course, lots of shopping. 3146 Mission Blvd – (5 miles from hotel)
Pacific Beach- is just north of Mission Beach and is another large and beautiful beach 4500 Mission Blvd (6 miles from hotel)
La Jolla Shores– is a beautiful, large, and clean beach in La Jolla. Behind the beach is a park area with grass and a playground. Also full of sea life, La Jolla Shores is good for snorkeling and kayaking. (12.5 miles from hotel)
Coronado– Coronado Beach, popular with locals, families, and tourists, is located on the ocean side of Coronado Island. Swim, surf, sail, body board, fish, or just fall asleep in the sun. Coronado Beach is the perfect beach to spend an entire day. (17 miles from hotel)
